New Ground is an environmental offset consulting business and has intimate knowledge of environmental science and environmental regulations across the state of QLD. They frequently provide advice to the government on Environmental policy.
The Challenge
New Ground, an ecological consulting business, was growing rapidly to meet the needs of a booming Queensland gas industry. New Ground recognised that their existing operating methods needed to be more scalable to service the growing demand. Also, the operations had to meet higher levels of compliance as demanded by tier 1 resource companies.
The Solution
Transfirm developed an Online Management System for New Ground that allowed ecological projects to be ‘templated’ and rapidly deployed. Using these project ‘templates’, new staff could quickly access the material they needed to produce a consistent, high-quality service across multiple projects and clients. The Online Management System was third-party certified to ISO requirements for Quality, Safety and Environment – thereby making it easier to tender and win work.
Critical Success Factors
The directors of New Ground were involved in designing the system. Strategic outcomes and project time-frames were clearly defined. Transfirm applied a proven and practical approach to change and project management. Both companies committed to a team-based approach to value creation through design and implementation.
The Goals
The goals were to simplify the operations and make the business more scalable. New Ground also wanted to ensure that it would have the lowest cost operation when the industry growth phase came to an end.
The Process
Transfirm first gained an understanding of New Ground’s existing operations. New ideas and methods were then created and tested throughout a design phase. A detailed scope for the project was completed to gain clarity on the changes involved. Implementation commenced using a team-based approach, followed by training and third-party certification of the management system.
The Results
New Ground was able to meet the demand of tier 1 energy companies through their industry growth phase. The Global Mark Auditor provided a letter of commendation to New Ground testifying that it was one of the best systems he’d seen in 30 years of auditing. Post the Queensland gas boom, New Ground has been able to use its online management system to scale-back its operations without compromising the quality of its service, nor the safety of its people.
