Knowing what you know now, would you do it again?
“Yes – 100% and we will do more in the future.
If I knew what I know now, I would have done it 15 years ago. Getting systems and processes perfected is the key. If you have been there before it’s a no-brainer – you don’t even ask the question twice.”
What would you say to others thinking of working with Transfirm?
“It’s the biggest investment in something that you physically can’t see. You can see a new shiny truck; but it’s one of the only investments that hasn’t given me a pain in the guts spending the money – when the processes roll out the weight comes off your shoulders.”
CASE STUDY
Chris Buckley Plumbing & Civil is an Australian privately owned plumbing and civil drainage specialist that has been delivering a range of projects for regional and urban government, commercial, industrial and residential sectors since 1996.
What was happening when you engaged Transfirm?
We had processes in place but we didn’t have any way of recording and tracking information on a daily basis. We wanted to replace our paper-based processes with customised apps that our staff could use.
For example, paper-based timesheets were costing us money and delaying the costing information we needed in our project management software.
What was the first thing you did with Transfirm?
We explored what would be possible by working with transfirm and what outcomes we could achieve. We then broke those outcomes into sections of work and prioritised them based on how important the outcomes would be for our business.
We identified that the best starting was to digitise the management of the plant, including location, pre-starts, maintenance, reporting etc.
How did you feel at the time?
At the time I felt excited about what we were going to achieve. I had no doubt that it would work and it was exciting for the company to move ahead to the next level.
The biggest ‘tick’ for me was watching our staff take it on – it made their life so much easier – they loved it and engaged in it at all levels – from the truck driver to the business owners it made life 100x better for everyone.
I was a bit nervous initially as to how quickly our people would engage and use the new apps and processes. But the people adapted quickly, which I think was helped by Transfirm working with people directly and providing the new tools soon as they were in place for testing and feedback.
What made the most impact?
Across the board, it was a huge time saving for us which equals saving dollars. I got an excellent return on my investment and am still getting it. I would say the whole project paid for itself within 12 months. It’s more than payback though; I have found that our simple processes attract good quality people. New people are quickly sold on our vision of simple processes and want to join our company.
What would you say you achieved overall from working with Transfirm?
It has had a 100% positive influence on our culture. Everybody sees the same information at the same time. If it remained paper-based no one would be aligned. It improves the culture by making things transparent; people are held accountable by the data. Because we all see who is doing what we now get 100% of our plant pre-starts completed. This completion of work drives a more productive and accountable work culture. If only 30% of people do things then you get an unproductive culture.
